The Pedab Story
Good prices and good products In 1993 the computer market started to see strong growth in Sweden and IBM was one of the most successful companies in that market. IBM changed its business model and outsourced its distribution to external parties, sowing the seed for today’s Pedab. Shortly after, we become post distributors for IBM in Sweden.
By buying in bulk at a good price, we were able to successfully sell the products to resellers at a better price than they would have paid if they had gone directly to IBM. Initially, we could only source a limited number of models, but we quickly gained access to the complete product family for PCs. After a while, IBM sold its printers to the newly started company Lexmark, and we managed to become their first distributor too, this time across the whole of Europe.
Fast, proactive driving force From the outset, we decided that Pedab would not just keep up with developments, but drive them forward ourselves. But just driving progress is not enough on its own. We swore that we would always provide fast deliveries and have rapid decision-making processes. We also wanted to be proactive. That means quickly drawing relevant and accurate conclusions and acting on them. Being proactive also means understanding our partners’ needs before they do.
In that spirit, Pedab is growing bigger every year and succeeding where many others fail – in getting loyal customers to stay with us year after year, while also attracting new ones.
Milestones In 1995 Pedab was commissioned to handle logistics and configuration for Volvo. The requirement was that the computers would be delivered preconfigured and unpacked. This marked the launch of a highly successful configuration concept, culminating in the delivery of 16,033 home PCs to Volvo in 2003.
1997 saw the start of the Home PC concept in Sweden, which led to large volumes of PCs and complete configurations being delivered directly to employees at companies around the country. This has had a strong influence on both Pedab and the industry at large to this day.
In 2000 Pedab Hardware AB (then Pedab Distribution AB) achieved quality certification under ISO 9000:2008 and environmental certification under ISO 14001:2004. These systems are maintained and audited on an annual basis.
BB Soft, another exclusive IBM distributor in the software field, was acquired in 2006, and the name was changed to Pedab Software AB.
The end of 2007 saw the creation of another new subsidiary, Pedab Software OY, based in Helsinki, Finland.
During the summer of 2008 Pedab ventured into Norway, starting up Pedab A/S in Oslo.
In early 2009 Pedab also moved into Denmark, starting up Pedab Software AS in Copenhagen.
Range
We have always been faithful IBM in our business concept and business plan, only ever adding Lexmark and Lenovo (to whom IBM sold its PC division in 2006). As part of this, we have always worked to offer more product lines from IBM than other suppliers.
Today and tomorrow The company that started in 1993 with five employees has grown. Today, we have over 60 staff and the office in Borås has now been joined by offices in Stockholm, Helsinki, Oslo and Copenhagen. Otherwise, much remains the same. We still strive every day to serve our customers with expertise and quality. Our vision is the dream that we try to make a reality every day. In doing our best, we ensure that suppliers, customers and partners remain satisfied – satisfied because we offer greater expertise and better solutions than our competitors. And that is true not just for products and services, but also for reliable deliveries, simple administration and smooth relations.
We continue to find new business for our partners – as their balance sheets clearly show.
